SW5 (Secret Weapon 5) is thought to be the project name for Alton Towers' next major white knuckle ride. Thought to be a rollercoaster, it is now known that riders will ride below the track, it is also rumored that it will be a flying coaster similar to Vekoma's Flying Dutchman.
SW1 and SW2 were Arrow Dynamic designs. They were pipeline coasters where the train travels between the tracks. This enables the train to twist in it's own axis giving the appearance of a pipeline. The designs were dropped due to excessive energy loss.
SW3 became the World famous Nemesis in 1994. Still being the only 'Inverted Rollercoaster' in the UK it is favored as one of the best of its kind in the world by many rollercoaster enthusiasts.
SW4 opened was the World first vertical drop rollercoaster Oblivion which opened in March 1998. Designed and manufactured by B&M and John Wardley, the designers of Nemesis, this new generation rollercoaster is now only one of two in the world, the other of which is installed in a theme park in Asia.
SW5 is now confirmed to be opening in 2002. The new Hotel has currently been put on hold so the park can improve it's rides. Also for more information on SW5
