As you enter Six Flags Magic Mountain’s parking lot, you stare up in awe at Goliath. Although it dwarfs over its neighboring coaster, superman, from the parking lot angle, it looks bolder. This Giovanola steel hypercoaster, opened in 2000. For a couple months after its final construction, this coaster stood as the tallest circuit coaster.

As you enter the highly themed tropical area of the park, you notice the orange track and teal supports. You watch as one of the three trains holding five cars each, slowly climb the 235 foot lift hill. When you can’t look up much further, you hear the screams of the 30 riders rocketing toward earth at 85 mph at an angle of decent of 61 degrees. Before you know it, you are being instructed to sit in a row of two seats each. The dispatcher launches, and the coaster train makes a quick turn to the beginning of the lift-hill. Although the sound of the chain is un-pleasant, the view is not. You tower above Colossus and laugh at the kids on Goliath Jr. Before you know it, you are looking down in a small hole in the ground, wondering if your head will hit the top of the tunnel. As you start to rush down at a very steep angle, the train picks up speed, and in a matter of seconds, you pass through the long tunnel, although it seems like a flash. Then you are thrown into your seats as you zoom up a steep hill. At the top you do a banked turn around and it feels as if you are going down the first drop again, you hit high negative g’s and you start your decent again.

You fly over a camel back and once again thrown out of your seat. Immediately, you go up a steep banked turn sending you parallel with the lift hill, only about a half way down. Your face sulks as you see the trim brakes that slow the train incredibly. Following the brakes, you are pushed to the left as the train dives to a banked 180 turn drop to the ground. The train once again hits a high speed and is thrown into another an overly banked 180 turn to the right. The next part usually is confusing and many people grey out to the high intense helix, in fact the helix in one of the most intense of any coaster. After the long and intense helix, you are thrown into another shorter over banked turn followed by a high speed turn into the final brake run leading straight into the station.

Goliath is arguably among riders favorite coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Goliath is a must ride.
