In 1940, Knott's Berry Farm opened
as a small marketplace for the Knott family to sell their
enormously popular berry jam & other products produced
right in Buena Park. The Ghost Town area was also constructed
bringing Knott's into the amusement park industry adding
rides over the years. Corkscrew, which opened in 1975 was
among the first Arrow corkscrew coasters ever to be built
in the mid-70's. As the park grew, so did its popularity,
the Timberline Twister kiddie coaster was added in 1983,
and the park remained rather slow until the 90's, when a
storm of new rides and attractions were added.
In 1990, the park's classic Corkscrew attraction was replaced
by a Vekoma Boomerang. Windjammer Surf-Racers were added
in 1997, and in 1998, Supreme Scream and GhostRider dominated
the park. In late 1997, the park's family ownership was
sold to Cedar Fair, however the park remained pretty much
untainted for the following years. In 2002, the park opened
Xcelerator, the world's first rocket coaster, and in 2003,
the park announced its addition of a full-length 6 inversion
inverted coaster, named Silver Bullet.
